We recently worked with a pair of homeowners who had grown very tired of their drafty, outdated and useless wood burning firebox. The box had not been used in countless years, and that brass surround just had to go!
We assisted them with choosing a gas insert that would not only supply them with some reliable heat, but also one that was in line with their preference for more modern and streamlined design.

Well, after a very late arrival, it looks like Spring weather is finally upon us. It's been a little more wet than necessary (in our opinion), but very welcomed none the less.
Ah Spring, everything is coming alive again and we are just itching to get back outside after a long, cold winter spent huddling indoors.
Some may say it's still a little too early, and cool for spending long evenings sitting out on the patio - but they are probably not (yet) equipped with a patio heater, patio flame or outdoor fireplace!
Any one of these outdoor products will allow you to extend your patio season:
Patio heaters can be placed almost anywhere, from a large outdoor deck, poolside, or even a small patio or balcony
Patio flames make wonderful additions to patios, and decks. Especially where city bi-laws prevent, or limit the enjoyment of open backyard fires.
Outdoor fireplaces, are by far the most luxurious option when it comes to extending your outdoor season.
Zero clearance models can be integrated into almost any design, and can transform a backyard space into something magical.
Family Comfort is well equipped for any installation of outdoor heating equipment. Natural gas lines can be trenched underground for seamless, custom installations. Give us a call for a free consultation and estimate.

Rinnai on demand hot water tanks are no passing trend. Imagine being able to preset your preferred water temperature, turn on the hot water tap, and have the water come out at precisely your preferred temperature everytime - no need to touch the cold water tap!
This little gadget - the Rinnai thermostat - will allow you to do things such as:
Set the kids bath water to come out just right - no more danger of scalding.
Set the kitchen tap to the perfect hand-washing temp.
Step into the shower in the morning, turn on the hot water tap, and have the water flow out just the way you like it.
The compact size of a Rinnai tankless unit, means lots of space saving. Not to mention, there is no more paying to continuously heat a large tank of water. Tankless technology means your water is heated only while it is being used. The water is heated as it feeds through the unit, which means your supply of hot water is virtually endless.
Family Comfort is a Rinnai certified service technician and installer.
Give us a call, should you have any further questions about tankless technology.

Barbecue season is upon us!!
After a long, cold and super snowy winter, it finally seems that Spring is really here..or at least lurking just around the corner. For those of you who can finally see your backyards, patios and decks, you may have started thinking about outdoor cooking.
Have you contemplated making the switch to a natural gas barbecue, but just not sure whether it's worth the effort and cost?
Consider that having a natural gas line run to a barbecue can be done in well under a day, and at a cost of roughly $300. In our opinion, this is well worth the practicality of never, ever running out of fuel again.
Not to mention the cost savings of natural gas vs. propane over the long term. And as a side benefit, natural gas burns much cleaner than propane.
If you are thinking of making the switch, please give us a call for a free home consultation and quote with our friendly and knowledgable technician. Our technician can also provide you with some helpful advice about what to look for when shopping for a new barbecue. If you are a serious outdoor cook, you will want to think about investing in a high quality grill that will see you through many, many barbecue seasons.

In our most recent fireplace installation, we installed the IDV33 in pewter by Kingsman fireplaces. The IDV33 is a direct vent insert. When installing a direct vent insert, we are still using a chimney stack to fulfill the fireplace's venting requirements. A direct vent insert requires the use of a dual venting system installed in an existing chimney. One of the vents is strictly for exhaust, while the other has the job of intaking fresh outside air for proper combustion. These inserts are designed to create a completely sealed system which will adequately heat your space, without adversely affecting your indoor air quality.
In this particular installation, we were dealing with a very small firebox opening. With this firebox no longer considered safe for open fires, these homeowners were left with a drafty and empty opening which was devoid of any practical use.
The clients were also having difficulty maintaining a comfortable temperature in this livingroom. The room was consistently 3 to 4º lower than the rest of the house partially due to the drafts from the chimney, along with other factors such as the position of the room in the home (front of house and near front entry).
The IDV33's compact size, efficiency and numerous features were the perfect choice in this particular application. These homeowners now have a very cozy fire to sit by, which is warming as well as pleasing to the eye. They have not only added to the value of their home, but also, will never have to worry about freezing during a winter power outage. They will stay warm and comfortable with or without electricity.
With small children running around the house, these homeowners have chosen to place a protective screen in front of the fireplace to protect little hands from the hot glass. We think it looks great!
